Sainthood Sunday: St. Vincent de Paul

More than just a charitable organization, St. Vincent was a study in true charity. He loved God no matter what was going on around him, displaying a very real purity of heart.

The part about the life of St. Vincent that I enjoy so much (besides the fact that he was captured by pirates) is the fact that he spent the first part of his ministry preaching the Gospel in places where it was needed. This is something that I think speaks to the truth of the difference between what can be considered a “government run charity” and a charity run by the Church, or one run with the intention of Christ.

Sts. Andrew Kim Taegon, Paul Chong Hasang, and Companions

Holy multitude of Saints, Batman!

How bad do you think that you have it in your own parish, your own ministry, your own town, your own family, when it comes to sharing your faith? Are you alive?

Today marks the feast day of these saints who were martyred in Korea as the Church began to be spread there. It wasn’t isolated to just the clergy, but lay people, those who are not ordained, were also martyred. This is why the question as to how bad you have it is so important.

Best Catholic Speaker of 2009?

Matthew Warner is hosting a vote to see who you think are the best Catholic Speakers of 2009. There are many great names listed. I of course would love to encourage you to vote for two good friends, first is someone you read frequently on this site, Todd Lemieux and second is Mark Hart from Life Teen (aka the Bible Geek).
Either way I think this is a great competition and a great way to expose more people to some of our inspiring and informative speakers out there.

When you are named a saint, what would you like your surname to mean?
I love that St. John’s means “golden-mouthed.” Here is a guy that was so great at preaching Jesus Christ and the gospel that they actually called him golden-mouthed. …

Learning from 9/11

This post was originally posted under the title “Waking Up to Our Need for God” a few months ago. I thought it a fitting post on the 8th Anniversary of 9/11 – the day our Nation was attacked and our feelings of security challenged. Today I pray for those who died and their families. I also pray that for the rest of us this be a day of reflection and a reminder that we need God more than ever.

Sainthood Sunday: St. Mary Magdalene

By Todd Lemieux

Mary Magdalene has had a rough go of it in the last 1500 years. For one thing, we don’t know how big a role she had in the Gospels. We know that she is mentioned as being one of the followers of Christ and that seven demons were driven out of her. Specifically that is all that we have.

God is Moving – Do You See It?

Do you ever get so busy “moving” and “doing” things you need to do that you forget to stop and allow God to move you?
I have noticed how in my extreme busy-ness these past few weeks I have failed to stop my own “moving” to be aware of God’s moving in and around me.
Today as I sat in Adoration I felt this extreme sense of peace as I realized how much God is moving in grace all around.
I noticed this when I was in Germany and was able to witness the …
