Support Needed

28 July 2009 Comments
helpMonths ago I was asked to go to Germany for the European Catholic Youth Conference which is put on by the Military Community Youth Ministries. Marlo Dowdy a long time friend has been serving the youth on military bases for several years now and has begun the European Catholic Youth Conference to continue that work directed at our Catholic Youth. The ECYC will bring together two-hundred teenagers and adults from all over Europe to experience the Catholic Faith in a profound way. Adore Ministries will be there to provide engaging and challenging sessions along with worship and powerful prayer experiences.I have been asked to go and minister to the adults – who mostly are parents of teenagers who see the need for youth ministry on the military bases but are largely ill-equipped or trained to do the ministry. Myself along with John Beaulieu, director of the Franciscan University Conference Office will spend the weekend ministering to and training the adults for ministry with adolescents. The budget for this conference is very low and with the cost of travel and all of the necessary expenses the organizers asked me to raise support for my travel expenses.I am needing to raise a total of $1000 to pay for my flight and other travel expenses. None of this money goes towards a stipend or my personal use.Would you consider making a donation to help support this ministry. Without your support I will not be able to go and serve these adults. Many of these adults are spouses of deployed military personel and they need the ministry this weekend just as the teenagers need them to be prepared to lead them to Christ.

Below is a donation button where you can donate through Paypal to support this ministry. If you would prefer to write a check you can contact me via email or if you would prefer to donate airline miles or an international voucher for travel that would be even better.

Know that your support in my ministry is always appreciated and I will take with me your intentions as I head to Schoenstaat in August and ask for many graces to be poured out to your family.

In Christ,

Here is some more information about MCYM and the need for youth ministry on our military bases – the same reason for the need for this conference:

Why Military Youth?

Because their parents are committed to the GREATEST duty an American citizen can commit to – protecting our country through military duty.

Military service men and women sacrifice not only their lives for our country, but also their own family time in order to protect ALL of us.

It is time we commit to giving their children the love and support they need.

1. Military teens live in a world of constant uncertainty.

  • Over half of military units in Germany are regularly deployed to Iraq and surrounding areas.

  • 11 % of all married personnel are in joint-service marriages, meaning the child is sent to a relative or friend’s home until the parents arrive back from deployment.

  • Families are re-stationed to a new location on average every two years.

2. There are over 300,000 teenaged sons and daughters of our armed forces scattered all over the world.

  • Outreach efforts to military students only exist on 7% of military instillations.

  • 17,540 military middle/high school youth live in Europe.

  • 9,027 military youth live on a base with MCYM ministry.

  • 23% of the 9,027 military youth on MCYM bases are registered with Club Beyond.

Only 16,000 military teens hear the gospel every year

Military Community Youth Ministries:

BUILD THE CHURCH.  Our mission is to expand the body of Christ on Earth by introducing military dependent teens to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith.

We believe Jesus has given us abundant LIFE, and so we strive to live in a way that will compel others to join us in our journey with Him and share this life:

Living intimately with Jesus

Investing ourselves in one another

Faith in all things

Empowering others for ministry
